Where do I start? Hannah and Chris are a fantastic Aussie-Brit pair who have the most lively set of friends and family! The photo selection for this Village Underground wedding might be a bit longer than usual because I struggled to cut down all the hilarious moments. From the time Tilly the dog licked Chris’ face to the impromptu Co-Op visit, through to Chris’ hilarious posing/expressions all day, to the guests swinging each other round and dropping glasses… it was messy and fucking beautiful. Partly because they had an amazing professional lighting crew to compliment my flash work, but also because everyone was just game for a good time, and essentially that’s what a wedding should be about. In Hannah’s words to me “just shame the lot of them”. Haha! Also to add to the greatness, Chris is a professional chef, so to put it in the words of Alice, my second shooter that day “I haven’t eaten wedding food as good as this since forever”. The meal was incredibly colourful and well presented, and the dessert table was a mix of gorgeous fine desserts but also, the down to earth doughnut wall, which also could be a kind of metaphor for the kind of people Hannah and Chris are!
I started the day with Hannah where she got ready with her family, her cousins were her bridesmaids, I get the impression that for both Chris and Hannah family is number 1! We all jumped in cabs to Islington Town Hall, a favourite for a lot of hip Londoners as it holds a huge number of people! Chris and the guests were having relaxed drinks across the road at The Vineyard pub before strolling over for the ceremony. After the ceremony Hannah and Chris’ dog Tilly came by for a cuddle and to have a few shots taken, then the guests boarded a red double decker bus with Alice whilst I jumped into a cab with the couple. We stopped by a Co-op to pick up some champers, enroute to having some classic couple photos taken round East London.

Sadly it did start to absolutely rack it down, so we headed over to The Village Underground, a great warehouse style wedding venue in East London. There, Chris and Hannah had decorated the tables with gorgeous florals and TFL themed table names and a tube map table plan. The outside had giant white balloons with pink tassels, but they got a bit soggy! When the rain cleared up a bit we went to take some more graffiti shots in front of the iconic Adore and Endure graffiti, as well as the tube carriages on top of the Village Underground wedding venue. I’d shot in this area before but never realised there was an industrial wedding venue sitting underneath it! As previously mentioned, Chris is a chef, so the wedding food was immaculate, so gorgeous I was spooning pate into my mouth!
After the speeches and mains, they had an epic dessert table complete with a doughnut wall and they cut their cheese cake, by that I mean cake made of cheese! They decided they didn’t want a first dance, so they just opened up the dancefloor without making a big announcement or gathering everyone to watch, and their family and friends hit it instantly! As Hannah and Chris hoped, the rest of the night descended into the chaos they wanted, from this point out I reckon it’s best to just let the photos speak for themselves! A Village Underground wedding is perfect if you like a huge, comfortable, high ceiling’ed industrial London wedding where you can bring in a lot of your own suppliers.
