A fun and quirky Battersea Barge wedding in sign language!

This was a really unique and exciting wedding for me as I was specifically hired because they were looking for a photographer who would capture an important element of who they are: the bride is deaf, as are many of her friends and family soshe wanted me to show that in her wedding photos through the sign language and expressiveness of her and her guests. She said that other wedding photos she'd seen tried to hide the evidence of deafness by having static photos or ones where the hand gestures were not paid attention to. Shockingly, she even told me that some wedding suppliers got a bit funny when they found out she was deaf, which is absolutely outrageous in my books! The wedding itself was also brilliant and vibrant, it took place on Battersea Barge and the bride wore a floor length red dress. On the morning of the wedding, she decorated the whole of the barge herself with pretty flowers, little urban and comic book cut outs for the table etc. The bride wanted to have urban couple shots that included the surrounding building site and architecture as she loves the city style. All in all it was a lovely day and I thoroughly enjoyed capturing something a little different! laughing in a room with shutters open brother sister hug bridal with a green mirror deaf sign language conversation comic book decorations flowers and tag green dog photo holdermother telling off son guests hugging waiting for the brideguests hugging with party poppersbride in red dress being walked down the aislebride in red dress looking at groom wedding guests on a barge deaf bride signing her decision the ceremonyaccidental party popper in brides faceurban industrial city couple shot couple in red dress in front of blue urban constructive panelguests on a boat pop rocksguests sign language groom on boat deckeyes on wallpapercheering during the speeches laughing guests sign language sign language speechessign language red dress bride dancing signing a joke during the speechessunset group of friends talking deaf sign language speechesview over battersea barge

Marianne your imagery is incredibly special. So emotive yet colourful, vibrant and candid.

Have you shot any unusual Jewish weddings as I’d love to feature your work?

Hey Karen, I shot one back in the Summer but the couple didn’t want advertising/blog use so I won’t get permission to feature! I’d love to shoot more though, the hora was brilliant!!
