This was a really unique and exciting wedding for me as I was specifically hired because they were looking for a photographer who would capture an important element of who they are: the bride is deaf, as are many of her friends and family soshe wanted me to show that in her wedding photos through the sign language and expressiveness of her and her guests. She said that other wedding photos she’d seen tried to hide the evidence of deafness by having static photos or ones where the hand gestures were not paid attention to. Shockingly, she even told me that some wedding suppliers got a bit funny when they found out she was deaf, which is absolutely outrageous in my books! The wedding itself was also brilliant and vibrant, it took place on Battersea Barge and the bride wore a floor length red dress. On the morning of the wedding, she decorated the whole of the barge herself with pretty flowers, little urban and comic book cut outs for the table etc. The bride wanted to have urban couple shots that included the surrounding building site and architecture as she loves the city style. All in all it was a lovely day and I thoroughly enjoyed capturing something a little different!
