A quirky Islington Town Hall and Islington Metalworks Wedding in London

Wedding prep at the Renaissance Hotel, London

Alex and Janine are a clever couple who planned a brilliantly original Islington Metalworks wedding in London. I've shot here before and it's one of my favourite quirky London wedding venues. They both started the morning getting ready at the iconic Renaissance Hotel, a truly beautiful and unique hotel right next to Kings Cross St Pancras station. Janine wore a sweet vintage A-line lace dress, combined with blue Dolce and Gabbana shoes customised with clip on blue sixpence that matched her bold blue petticoat. They opted for bright colours throughout their wedding floristry, which was done by their friend.

Islington Town Hall wedding ceremony

After getting ready for their wedding at the Renaissance Hotel, they all travelled to Islington Town Hall where they had their civil ceremony which was a very emotional affair all round

Bright colours was the theme of the day, they had the first of their confetti throws, this one outside the town hall by hand...

After which all the guests got onto a red double decker bus which took them to their wedding reception at the Islington Metalworks, a working rock metal club on other days and one of my favourite quirky London wedding venues!

Islington Metalworks wedding reception

The Metalworks in Islington is a really cool wedding reception venue that comes with loads of decor help because it's a working scrap metal yard as well! They have lots of quirky props and they let couples customise the space, and they're fantastic at making sure the room looks great. Alex and Janine had a properly original idea for their table names and centrepieces... their wedding dinner theme was unusual/weird books that they'd sourced from all over the internet! This included books like Downtown Tabby... literally a story of Downtown Abbey in cat form. Erotic Dot to Dot, which provided much entertainment, a book solely on Weatherspoons pub carpets and a guide for how to dance with cats! On top of this they had a pimp your own prosecco bar, a gorgeous and plentiful cake table, a temporary tattoo station, stunning doughnuts, flamingo cake toppers, a fancy dress photo booth complete with animal masks... just loads of cool shit basically!

After their Islington Metalworks wedding drinks reception all the guests sat down for dinner, Alex and Janine were kind enough to seat me with their guests so I got to stay close to the fun! To roll with the Halloween esque theme, their wedding favours created home made shots of baileys but made it look like blood/spicy sauce, so the guests had a bit of a trick or treat moment!

The Islington Metalworks also provides entertainment for your guests in the form of table football, so after dinner before the party started quite a few of the guests took to a little healthy competition

Janine changed into a stunning gold evening gown, complete with Adidas trainers that matched her chief bridesmaid's Adidas shoes! Their guest book asked their guests to draw a self portrait on a postcard

Instead of having a first dance they had a round of first shots for everyone

They also opened up the fancy dress photo booth which is in the end of the tube carriage bar and the guests were treated to pizza for the evening buffet. If you're looking for a cool London wedding venue that really makes sure you'll have a good time definitely consider an Islington Metalworks wedding!
