Barn wedding venue in Essex
Essex has an abundance of barn venues as options. If you want an Essex barn wedding venue with on site overnight accommodation and a colourful alternative look, then you should look at Canary Shed in Burnham-On-Crouch. If you’d like a barn venue with a more muted tone in the look, prep space for the morning, and an experienced in house events team then check out The Barns at Lodge Farm. However, if you want an Essex barn wedding venue with large traditional grounds and plenty of grass for your lawn games then Colville Hall is the perfect venue for you. It is also a dog friendly wedding venue in Essex, which is brilliant if you want to bring your best friend to the whole wedding day.
Recommended photographer for Colville Hall weddings
I am an official recommended photographer for Colville Hall, having photographed one of the very first weddings there. I live only a mere 30 minutes drive away so I am a very local Essex wedding photographer. The advantage of booking an experienced and recommended photographer for a venue is that you know they know all the best photo spots.
Colville Hall Wedding inspiration
To give you an idea of how your fun Colville Hall wedding could look like, here’s S + J’s relaxed games fueled wedding day! We all started the wedding day on site, with the bride getting ready in one of the cabins by the lawn. This couple, like myself, are game mad, and had laid out lots of white lawn games for the guests to enjoy before the wedding ceremony. The vintage wooden lawn games were provided by Beyond The Decor. The gorgeous floristry was done by Cherubs Florists, an award winning Essex florist. The bride’s make up was done by GG Beauty, and her hair done by her step-mum. She wore a gorgeous sequin floral wedding dress from Miss Jophiel, a company specialising in affordable occasion wear. The dress was then altered by Essex sewing room.

Colville Hall wedding ceremony
The wedding ceremony can take place in many different locations at Colville Hall, but their barn up by the main house is an ideal Essex barn wedding ceremony space. This couple made their wedding entrance super fun, by having flower men, complete with bum bags for their confetti to throw up the aisle. Their friends and family entered in pairs dancing. After the super sweet emotional wedding ceremony the guests threw confetti. In a first for me they had star confetti! It was so cool, I can’t believe it was the first time I’d photographed star confetti!

Drinks reception and wedding games on the Colville Hall lawn
After their wedding ceremony, the whole wedding party went just outside to the lawn for the games. I absolutely love photographing lawn games at weddings. As a documentary wedding photographer, it’s a fab way for me to get natural photos of the guests interacting and having fun. The shapes of the lawn games also provides me with plenty of compositions to work with.

Game themed wedding dinner
After the canapé and drinks window, all the guests went to the main barn for their dinner. Colville Hall has two barns. This enables them to seamlessly set up your dinner reception without needing to turnaround the ceremony barn. This couple had a series of speeches from beloved friends and family, and also a surprise family song performance! What I really loved about this wedding, is how close knit their family is. From the dancing cousins entrance to this personal song, you really felt all the love in the room. The dinner was catered by Limeberry Catering, who are the resident caterers of Colville Hall.

Couple photos at Colville Hall
There are many places to take your couple photos at Colville Hall. The wildflower meadow has a lovely sunset, and there’s and orchard field and various old Tudor buildings to work with.

After the dinner the guests went back to the main lawn to continue their games

The main barn where the dinner is held has a narrow bar section slightly separated. This is the best space for a Photo Booth provided by Devoted Events. They had a fab first dance kicked off by the band Foxland, an upbeat acoustic folk band.
