What are the Hackney Venues?

I love being a Hackney wedding photographer, I live on the border of East London and Essex so I’m very local to all the Hackney Venues. Hackney borough has four wedding venues that they promote for wedding ceremonies as “Hackney Venues”. So whilst there are plenty of other wedding venues in the Hackney borough, such as Clapton Country Club, these are the four that are managed by the council directly. Another fabulous quirky Hackney wedding venue is The Boathouse at Lea Rowing Club where I photographed this Wes Anderson themed wedding. If you prefer a more modern restaurant wedding venue in Hackney, then a Jones & Sons wedding is a great shout. The Museum of the Home wedding should be your East London wedding venue choice if you want beautiful outdoor space with modern clean interior buildings. If you liked the churchesque aesthetic of Abney Park Chapel but needed more space, then the Round Chapel is a popular East London wedding venue.

With each Hackney Venue comes a dedicated events team to help your Hackney wedding run smoothly. As a Hackney wedding photographer I have photographed weddings at each of the venues and can give you insight into the spaces to help you plan your perfect East London wedding. The four official Hackney Venues are the Hackney Town Hall, Clissold House, Abney Park Chapel and the Glasshouse. To get married at any of these you need to give notice first and complete your registrar forms.

Hackney Town Hall wedding photographer

Hackney Town Hall is one of the most popular London registry offices to get married in. It is perfect for low key London wedding ceremonies. They have a high glass ceiling brick and metal atrium that you can hold large ceremonies in as well as the smaller civil ceremony rooms. The huge iconic outdoor steps are perfect for big group photos, and the quirky palm trees make a nice couple photo spot. The Hackney assembly halls are also available for large wedding receptions.

Clissold House wedding photographer

I have photographed weddings at Clissold House many times over a decade. Clissold House is a small house located inside Clissold Park right next to Stoke Newington Town Hall. It has a beautiful spiral staircase. All ceremonies are held inside a yellow walled room. They can hold up to 60 guests. The lobby is light blue. There used to be a cafe right next door to the exit, which remains open during wedding ceremonies. However I learned recently that this closed. Although it’s sad for park goers, it works out better for your Clissold House wedding! In the past my couples would always have members of public walking around the steps. These steps are where you’d likely be having your group photos. With the cafe closed, you can use the whole width of the space for your full wedding group photos. The park itself has plenty of gorgeous spots for couple photos and is still open to the public, so on a sunny day you should expect to see a lot of people sunbathing etc.

Abney Park Chapel wedding photographer

I was one of the first wedding photographers to shoot a wedding at Abney Park Chapel after its recent renovation. They have done a stunning job in restoring the interior and the stained glass window. It is a unique and exclusive place that has the aesthetic of a modern church but you can have your civil ceremony in it. It is situated deep inside Abney Park. Therefore, ensure your guests don’t get lost by providing good directions. You have to add on a proper 5 mins walking time from the edge of the park gates. An advantage of such a hidden location is that you can get married in the middle of London but it feels tranquil.

The Glasshouse

The Glasshouse is an underrated gorgeous modern venue. It is on the edge of a park with a cool interior roof and glass skylight. Located just inside Springfield Park, so it has plenty of space for lush natural group and couple photos. It is also located a very short walk to The Boathouse at Lea Valley Rowing Club. This gives you additional options for your wedding reception. The Glasshouse consists of a series of modern clean aesthetic rooms.

I hope this gives you an insight into your options for planning your Hackney wedding. If you need a London documentary wedding photographer don’t hesitate to get in touch! Here are some photos from the non official Hackney wedding venues, that I listed at the start!
